A large language model, shortened to LLM, is a program trained on very large amounts of text. From the text it is given, it predicts which text is likely to come next, and that prediction is the answer you read.
It is the technology behind assistants such as ChatGPT and behind the written answers in AI search.
A model produces plausible text, and plausible is not the same as correct. It can state something wrong in a confident tone, so whatever you take from it has to be checked by a person before you publish it. In the European Union, the AI Act sets out when such published content has to be labeled.
