The AI Act is the regulation of the European Union on artificial intelligence, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689. A regulation applies directly in every member state, so it is in force in Austria without a separate national law.
Its Article 50 covers transparency and has applied since 2 August 2026. For published text that informs the public on matters of public interest, it requires labeling, unless the content was reviewed by a human and a person or a company holds editorial responsibility for it.
In practice this concerns everyone who publishes text written with a large language model. This entry is a short definition and not legal advice.
