Structured data is machine-readable information embedded in a web page. In a fixed format it states what the page is about, for example that it belongs to a business with an address, opening hours and a list of services.
Visitors never see it. It sits in the code of the page, beside the text they read, and it does not change how the page looks.
Search engines and AI systems use it to read a page more reliably, because they do not have to guess what the words mean. That is why structured data is part of the technical side of SEO, and why it also helps when a business is described in AI search.
