A content management system, usually shortened to CMS, is software that lets you change the texts and images on a website without touching code. You log in, edit a page and save it.
The content is kept in a database, and the layout stays separate from it. That separation is why a new design can be placed over the same texts, and why the same text can be shown in a different shape on a phone through responsive design.
A CMS needs regular updates. The system itself and the extensions added to it receive security fixes, and a system that is left alone becomes the weakest point of your hosting. Plan who does these updates before you choose a system.
Websites & shops
Since 28 June 2025, Austria's Accessibility Act (BaFG) applies to websites and apps through which consumers conclude a contract, such as online shops, ticket sales and online bookings. Micro-enterprises with fewer than ten employees and at most €2 million in turnover or balance sheet total are exempt.
Websites & shops
An online shop pays off when you sell products or clearly defined services at clear prices, shipping or pickup is sorted, and someone handles orders, returns and upkeep for the long term.
Websites & shops
A website for a small business has to explain within a few seconds what you offer, work on a phone and make an enquiry possible without detours.
Hosting & servers
Ongoing maintenance means someone backs up, updates and monitors your website and handles small changes, so that it stays reachable and secure.
Hosting & servers
Your website is a set of files on a server in a data center, your domain is the address that sends visitors there, and email runs as a separate service alongside it.
